Launching Weather Balloons

A couple of teachers at our school wrote a grant and executed an elaborate series of lessons on the earth's atmosphere. We were all invited to  participate in the launching of some weather balloons. Each balloon was attached to a box that was decorated by each grade level and had instructions for the finder on how to notify the school that it had been found and where and when.

The one below also had a Go-Pro video camera attached and weather recording instruments.

Here goes the first one:

Here are two in one shot:

One did not have enough helium and launched only into the trees.

This is the one with the instruments.

This last one had three balloons attached to the one box.

The link below has a wonderful video of the flight made by the Go-Pro. It is 14 minutes long, but sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. You will be glad you came along for this amazing story.
