How ya dune?
The sand dunes at St. Joseph's Peninsula are some of the highest in the nation. To preserve them, access to the beaches is limited. It was quite a trudge through the ones on the end designated as a wilderness area. It is difficult to get proportions but this is an old tree in the bottom of this sculpted pit.
Below you can see where the high tide line is chiseling away at one dune.
We were interested in the dark lines. Perhaps fires or perhaps a red tide? We don't know.
As the wind and the waves sculpt the sand, the wind also sculpts the trees on the dunes.
As you can see, we pretty much had it to ourselves. It was pretty amazing.
