Lily Pad Tangles

I had stopped to admire this blue dragon fly on a lily pad in a pond.

I noticed while I was there, that while most lily pad stems seem to grow straight...

Many of these were coiled and tangled.

And this one even grew in a circle.

I find this very curious.
