St. Ignatius Church in St. Inigoes, Maryland

We sought and found (with some difficulty) this ancient church. It was locked and we admired it from the outside. Note the dates on the sign.

The walls of the church are said to be 21 inches thick.

The church cemetery is in the side yard. It is said to be one of the oldest cemeteries  in America.

Twenty-eight Jesuit priests are buried here. The first was born in 1590 and died here in 1637.

There are many other very old graves, some of soldiers of the American Revolution.

I found the inscriptions on the iron crosses touching.

So glad we succeeded in finding it.
