Forest Research Project

On a recent Sunday on our truck ride through the national forest, we came upon a long series of these curious data collectors. You will probably have to click on the picture to see the clear plastic dinner plate that has been "nailed" into the ground to cover the four little bottles that are buried in the sand. There were dozens, all evenly spaced out along a stretch of dirt road.

We had recently read that the hairy crazy ants have been found in 20 counties in Florida, and we had to wonder if this was being used to look for them. If not them, then probably some other insect.
