Mailbox Monday: Wild Turkey on the Fourth

Not the beverage, the bird!

The feet and beard on this mailbox once belonged to a live bird.

The story goes that Benjamin Franklin proposed that the American wild turkey be named as our national bird. It, of course, lost out to the bald eagle. Apparently, there were no hurt feelings: this turkey was decked out for the Fourth.

In the same front yard is a second turkey.

This one is carved on-site from a tree stump by local chainsaw artist, John Birch.
